If you have seen a wallaby waltzing through your yard in the last week, it’s not the 1960s playing a hallucinogenic trick on you like the Beatles groovy “Walrus.” It’s real – and his name is Waldo.
Waldo, the Lund family’s beloved Bennett wallaby, went on the lamb Monday afternoon after strong winds caused a tree to fall on the miniature kangaroo’s fenced enclosure that is built onto the back side of the family’s home.
“We never thought we would raise a wallaby,” Lund said. “It wasn’t something we jumped right into. We did our research and always wondered if we would get tired of him after the newness wore off.”
But the novelty never wore off, she said. During sick or stressful times Waldo always put his family members in a good mood.
“It's just been quite an emotional roller coaster for all of us,” she continued. “Losing Waldo is like losing a family member. We were just talking about how gentle, affectionate and devoted he was. We still have not given up hope; however, we do need to face reality.”
